Dani Osvaldo in training ground bust-up

Southampton striker Dani Osvaldo could leave after he was banned for two weeks following a bust-up with teammate Jose Fonte at the club’s training base on Wednesday.

Dani Osvaldo has a history of problems.

The club moved quickly to hand Osvaldo a public dressing down and a two-week ban following the incident, which left his teammates shocked by the level of violence they had witnessed.

“Southampton Football Club has today suspended striker Dani Osvaldo for two weeks, following an incident at the club’s Staplewood training ground,” the club statement read. “The club has taken swift and proper action for what it considers a breach of the conduct expected of its players.”

ESPN sources understand the actions of Osvaldo may mean he will not be welcomed back into the Saints' fold once his suspension is served, with the club now likely to try to arrange a loan move or sale for the controversial striker before the Jan. 31 transfer deadline.

The striker has just serving a three-match suspension for his role in the touchline bust-up at Newcastle last month, which also earned him a 40,000 pound fine from the Football Association.

This is not the first time Osvaldo has hit the headlines for the wrong reasons, with the club record signing reported to have had a similar training ground incident with teammate Erik Lamela during their days together at Roma back in 2011.

Osvaldo has scored three goals in 13 Premier League appearances since his 15 million pound move to Southampton last summer, but club sources suggest a move back to Italy is likely before the end of the month on either a temporary or permanent deal.
