Ferdinand reveals management plan

Rio Ferdinand has declared his ambition to manage in the Premier League by 2019 and the Manchester United defender has suggested it may be in London.

The former England captain, who has been studying for his coaching badges, is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

But the 35-year-old, who is expected to leave United in the summer, has several business interests and will also be a pundit at the 2014 World Cup.

He replied to a Twitter question from a follower asking where he expected to be in five years by replying: “Alive.....in London & managing in the PL!!”

Ferdinand, who was born in the London suburb of Peckham, began his career in the British capital with West Ham before joining Leeds and moving on to Manchester United in 2002.

The centre-back also nominated former Real Madrid forward Raul and Dennis Bergkamp, whose Arsenal career ended in 2006, as the most challenging forwards he has faced.

And he said he does not expect to see a player of the calibre of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo again in the future.
