City waiting on Samir Nasri injury

Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Manchester City face an anxious wait over the extent of the knee injury Samir Nasri sustained in the 2-0 defeat of Newcastle on Sunday.

Mooney: Disallowed goal could prove costly
Heneage: Offside law continues to confuse and anger

Nasri, 26, who has contributed four goals and three assists this season, picked up the injury following a strong challenge from Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, which resulted in the defender receiving a yellow card.

“Maybe it’s medial ligaments. We’ll see tomorrow [Monday] what happens with him,” Pellegrini told Sky Sports, after seeing goals from Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo secure his side all three points.

The Chilean was also left furious at referee Mike Jones’ decision not to send off Yanga-Mbiwa for the foul on Nasri.

“It should have been a red card for the tackle by Yanga-Mbiwa on Samir Nasri. A direct red card -- we didn’t have any extra help from the referee today,” Pellegrini said.

“Nasri has a serious injury with his knee -- it was directly a red card.”

Jones also came under criticism from Newcastle manager Alan Pardew after the game for disallowing a Cheick Tiote goal that would have given his side a 1-1 equaliser in the 34th minute.

However, the midfielder’s strike was ruled out, with the official believing Yoan Gouffran, standing in an offside position, to be interfering with play.

The win pushes City to the top of the Premier League table with 47 points, although Arsenal can overtake them with a win at Aston Villa on Monday night.
