Rafael: 'Big difference' under Moyes

Rafael da Silva has admitted that it was a huge change for Manchester United when David Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson as manager.

But the right-back is bemused by the focus on Moyes and said the United players have to take the blame for their predicament.

And he praised Moyes for instilling the right mentality in United and said it is up to them to implement his ideas on the pitch.

Rafael said: “It is quite a big difference. We knew there would be a change. The manager had just left after 27 years. It was always going to be hard. We have to take the mentality David Moyes has given us and use it on the pitch.

“David Moyes has a strong mentality. He is doing his own job. We have to use that in a positive way.”

Rafael was an influential figure as United beat Swansea 2-0 on Saturday to end a three-game losing run but a title-winning team are only seventh and the Brazilian feels the players are accountable for their slide.

He added: “I agree 100 percent. We are the ones who have to take the responsibility. We have to show, like we did in the second half [against Swansea]. I don't know why everyone is looking at the manager. It is the players who have to do the job on the pitch.”

And Rafael feels United’s lesser lights have to prove they have strength in depth and confound their critics.

He said: “We have to show our quality. People are saying United don't have a good squad. We have to show that is not true.”
