Barkley deserves Euro 2016 chance

Schmeichel: United in need of clearout

Peter Schmeichel has accused some of the Manchester United team of not caring and said manager David Moyes needs to sell players in January.

The EPL has looked to various corners of the world for fair transfer value in the past; Peter Schmeichel was a flagship signing at the height of the Scandinavian influx.
Peter Schmeichel says Man Utd are giving their fans little to cheer about this season.

The former United keeper, who won the Premier League five times and the Champions League during his spell at Old Trafford, urged Moyes to sell any players who don’t have the attitude and pride to play for the club.

And the Dane accused some of the current generation of letting the club down by failing to show the determination their predecessors had.

He told the Daily Mail: “To be a Manchester United player, it requires a certain level of performance, mentality and you have got to be proud to be a Manchester United player. I just see with five or six players that they don't care and we have never ever had players that don't care. You should care.

“It's so obvious. Everyone is talking about it. Let's say the club have 560 million supporters. If you are named in the first XI, you carry the responsibility for 560 million people's wellbeing at that time. That's a lot of people. There are 75,000 people there at Old Trafford every time you play a game.

“This is what you have to understand when you are a Manchester United player. This is the kind of responsibility you have to take on the pitch. Certain players look like they don't care and they should not be at Manchester United.”

Schmeichel believes it will be difficult for Moyes to make the right signings in the winter transfer window and said it is more important he sells.

“I know it doesn't look great that we are ninth in the table but in January, I don't think the right players are usually available,” Schmeichel added.

And the former goalkeeper told talkSPORT: “Who is out there that is available at that kind of level that would leave any club in January, unless you pay way over the odds? What I think is really important to David Moyes is maybe not bringing players in, but letting players go.

“It is very important he stamps his authority on the squad and some of the players that are there are not performing well enough, and it has been going on for a while. It would be much better for the club if he brings one or two of the younger players through and lets one or two go.”
