Yohan Cabaye hints at Newcastle exit

Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has hinted at an exit from St James' Park, admitting he could be lured away by Champions League football at the end of the season.

Yohan Cabaye celebrates his spectacular opener for Newcastle.
Cabaye has impressed for club and country this year.

Cabaye has helped the Toon to eighth place in the Premier League but admits he has had Champions League withdrawals after playing in Europe's top flight competition with Lille.

Ryder: Unsung hero

The France international has been linked with league frontrunners Arsenal and Liverpool, while Italian side Roma are also believed to be in the hunt for his signature.

Although Cabaye is determined to see out the season with Newcastle, he appears likely to assess his options next year.

"I miss the Champions League," Cabaye told RTL. "I'll finish this season with Newcastle and concentrate on the coming months and then we'll see.

"I love to play in front of the defence, to have the whole game in front of me. To recover the ball and then put my team-mates into good positions."

Cabaye threw his support behind international team-mate Franck Ribery to win the Fifa Ballon d'Or ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

"I want to support Ribery win," he added. "He has done everything to have it, he deserves it. He carries Bayern Munich and Les Bleus. In comparison to the big countries, we're only missing a little confidence. Not much is expected of us in Brazil."
