Romelu Lukaku hits out at Belgian media

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has vented his frustration after some sections of the media in Belgium criticised his performance in Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

Lukaku, on a season-long loan from Chelsea, scored in the 72nd and 82nd minutes of the 3-3 draw with Liverpool at Goodison Park on Saturday, and received plaudits for his performance in the English press.

However, the striker -- who has often been compared unfavourably with compatriot Christian Benteke in Belgium -- quoted segments of articles written in his home country as he spoke of his annoyance about the way he is portrayed.

He wrote: “Some media in Belgium can’t be happy for their fellow countrymen.”

Referring to one article that suggested English defences “aren’t always sharp”, he tweeted: “#areyoukiddingme?!?”

Quoting another article that said he “had a difficult first hour” despite his man of the match award, he wrote: “And they wonder why I prefer speaking with the English media. Good thing the fans aren’t as negative as you guys.”
