Leighton Baines out for a month

Everton left-back Leighton Baines is facing a month after fracturing his toe during Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

• Usher: Time for technology?

Baines is set to miss key Premier League fixtures against Manchester United and Arsenal as he recovers from the injury.

The England international, 28, was caught by Jordan Henderson in the first half of the 3-3 Premier League draw with Liverpool at Goodison Park.

But he played on until the 50th minute, when he was replaced by forward Gerard Deulofeu, who is on loan from Barcelona.

Baines left the ground on crutches, and a scan on Saturday night revealed the problem. He will have further tests to discover how serious it is. The left-back is looking to return within a month.

Meanwhile, Kevin Mirallas has admitted that he expected a red card for his first-half lunge on Liverpool striker Luis Suarez during Saturday’s derby.

Everton forward Mirallas was booked for the first-half challenge, which was described as career-threatening by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Belgium international told the Liverpool Echo: "When I made the challenge, the first thing I thought was that it was going to be a red card.

"I was genuinely going for the ball but I know I caught him on the knee and I said sorry straight away.

"I might have been OK because it was the derby, because in those matches there is always a lot of contact, a lot of tackles going in."
