Stephane Sessegnon relishing pressure

Stephane Sessegnon has admitted he feels the pressure of being West Bromwich Albion's record signing, but says he can use the price tag to ensure he continues to make a positive impact at The Hawthorns.

Stephane Sessegnon put West Brom in front against Sunderland, scoring on his debut against his former club.
Stephane Sessegnon joined West Bromwich Albion from Sunderland for six million pounds.

Evans: Albion's new attitude

Sessegnon, a six million pound signing from Sunderland, has overshadowed the Baggies’ other summer arrivals Nicolas Anelka, Victor Anichebe and Matej Vydra, producing some eye-catching performances and scoring two goals for his new club.

Albion raised eyebrows with their late move for the Benin international, and the striker concedes that the large amount of money has had an impact on him.

"There is a certain pressure to perform very well because of the price tag, but it’s a positive pressure because it shows the club think I’m worth it," he told the Birmingham Mail.

It is the second time in his career Sessegnon has been transferred for six million pounds -- following his move from Paris Saint-Germain to Sunderland in 2011 -- and he has had to work hard to overcome some of the doubters at The Hawthorns.

Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio's damning assessment of Sessegnon following his move to Albion did little to help the striker settle in at his new club.

"It was quite difficult to make the change because I was at Sunderland for two years and Sunderland were the first club who welcomed me from France," he said.

"But now I have made a good start here and I feel good. It’s going well because I’ve come to a club where I knew some of the players already.

"That has helped me settle down quickly. I believe I can bring more to the club. This is still the settling in period and I will show more as time goes by. I am obviously very pleased the fans like me."
