Arnautovic future on Stoke agenda

Who will play in Arsenal's midfield?

Pardew: Tim Krul is Netherlands' best

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has hailed goalkeeper Tim Krul, the hero of his club’s 1-0 win at Tottenham on Sunday, as the best in the Netherlands.

Krul, 25, made 14 saves in a game that saw Tottenham rack up 31 attempts, and his stunning performance ensured that Loic Remy’s early goal proved to be the winner.

The 14 saves represented a Premier League record for a goalkeeper in a single game this season, and Pardew was quick to sing the praises of Krul, a graduate of Newcastle's academy after joining from Den Haag as a teenager.

"I think he's the best goalie in Holland and I think he proved that," he told the Journal. "His performance level has not needed to be high this season -- we've not come under that pressure this season too often but we did here.

"Certainly in the second half Tottenham turned up the heat, and he answered almost everything. It was an unbelievable performance."

Speaking after the game, Krul said the display had been the highlight of his career and told BBC Sport: "The first save was the best – [Roberto] Soldado's header. The sun was low, and the performance kick-started from there.

"Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa put his life on the line to clear one [from Younes Kaboul] -- it shows the commitment, from the back five to the strikers. This is the highlight of my career. It was nice to celebrate with the back four. These kind of games don't happen very often.

"It was a great result. I think we have played better -- against Sunderland, we played well and lost. If we keep a clean sheet, we can win games."
