Lee Cattermole will miss Sunderland's next three fixtures after the club opted not to appeal the midfielder's sending off against Hull.
• Randall: Misplaced pride
Cattermole, 25, was dismissed during Saturday's 1-0 defeat to the Tigers for a late challenge on former teammate Ahmed Elmohamady just before half-time.
Manager Gustavo Poyet condemned the decision and initially intended to appeal it, but after looking through referee Andre Marriner’s report he has admitted defeat, with the Football Association holding the right to extend suspensions for what it believes to be "frivolous" appeals.
The news means Sunderland will be without Cattermole for the trip to Stoke City as well as home games against Southampton and Manchester City.
The ban also means Cattermole will have missed 16 games due to suspension during his four-and-a-half-year Black Cats career.
