Stevan Jovetic out for three more weeks

He may not have had much to do on Saturday, but it seems as though Costel Pantilimon's position as Manchester City's number one could be set to continue.

Manchester City will be without striker Stevan Jovetic for a further three weeks because of a calf injury.

Jovetic, 24, who was a summer signing from Fiorentina, has had a stop-start beginning to his City career, and is now spending a third spell on the sidelines.

The Montenegro international was hurt in the opening minutes of Wednesday’s 2-0 Capital One Cup win at Newcastle and also sat out Saturday’s 7-0 victory over Norwich in the Premier League.

And now Jovetic is set to miss Tuesday’s Champions League game against CSKA Moscow, as well as Sunday’s trip to Sunderland and the home game against Tottenham after the international break.

“Jovetic has at least three weeks [out]. Except [for] Vincent Kompany and Richard Wright, all the other players are fit,” Pellegrini said.

City midfielder Javi Garcia, who missed the Norwich game with a minor knock, is back in contention, while centre-forward Alvaro Negredo, who was substituted at half-time against the Canaries, is fine.

Pellegrini added: “He [Negredo] doesn’t have any problem. He just played 45 minutes because he played 115 minutes three days before [at Newcastle].”
