Kyle Walker signs long-term contract

Kyle Walker has signed a new contract with Tottenham which will keep him at the club until 2019.

Walker, 23, signed from Sheffield United in 2009 and has gone on to make 112 appearances for Tottenham in total.

After a loan spell back at Bramall Lane, and subsequent loans to QPR and Aston Villa, Walker has become the first-choice right-back at White Hart Lane and was voted Young Player of the Year by the Professional Footballers' Association in 2012.

He told the club's official website: "It’s fantastic. When I first signed here at the age of 18, I always wanted to make it a long stay.

"The lads are fantastic as well as the manager and everyone surrounding the club -- it just makes it a lot easier when they do offer you a contract to sign it.

"I’m very thankful to the chairman for giving me an extension on the contract and hopefully I can repay him by putting the performances in on the pitch and getting that top four spot."

Walker also said he was hopeful of Spurs' chances of securing a top-four finish after their promising start to the season which has .

"Tottenham have always had great players and it has gone very well for us since the start of the season," he said. "The players we’ve got and the depth around the team is very good, so it’s bright things [ahead] for Tottenham and hopefully everything comes together."

Walker has also played an important role in helping England to qualify for the 2014 World Cup, winning nine caps.
