Stevan Jovetic was close to joining Juve

Stevan Jovetic has revealed he would have joined Juventus if Manchester City had not come in for him.

Juve and Arsenal were among a number other clubs to show interest in Jovetic, 23, when he opted to leave Fiorentina in the summer.

However, City came out on top and managed to complete a 25-million-pound transfer to take him to the Etihad Stadium.

But while the Montenegro international has only been a bit-part player in an injury-hit beginning to his City career -- making just a solitary Premier League start, with his only goals having come against Wigan in the Capital One Cup -- he insists he made the correct decision.

He told Tuttosport: "If I would have not gone to Manchester City, I would have gone to Juventus. This summer, the situation was simple: I had a price of 30 million euros, but I never said that I wanted to go to Juve. I only asked to leave Fiorentina and I was pleased.

“The interest of Juventus? I was aware of the deal, I read about it in the newspapers and I know that they were speaking with my agent. In the end, however, I chose to go abroad and now I'm happy. I don't regret the choice I made."

Jovetic scored 40 goals in his five seasons with Fiorentina and played for Montenegro against England on Friday, hitting the bar during his side’s 4-1 defeat at Wembley.
