Brad Guzan shakes off Arsenal interest

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- In a week in which he was linked to the Premier League leaders, U.S. international goalkeeper Brad Guzan insisted he's happy to remain with his current club, Aston Villa.

Goalkeeper Brad Guzan was brilliant in Aston Villa's stunning victory over Manchester City.
Brad Guzan says he's happy at Aston Villa.

Guzan has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, with his stellar play helping record impressive wins away at Arsenal as well as at home against Manchester City. But as a consequence other teams have begun to take notice, with the Gunners apparently among those interested.

According to a report earlier this week on MLSSoccer.com, Arsenal have been scouting Guzan in recent weeks -- even though starter Wojciech Szczesny has been in excellent form of late -- with an eye towards possibly making a move to acquire the U.S. international.

Yet Guzan insists he's content to remain with Villa, especially after waiting four seasons to finally cement his place in the first team. Villa let Guzan's contract expire in 2012, but re-signed him to a four-year deal over the summer.

"Aston Villa, they've stuck by me, especially the manager, [Paul Lambert]," said Guzan ahead of Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Jamaica. "He’s given me a chance to play consistent football in Europe. It’s always nice when you’re linked with other teams, but for me, I’m very happy at Aston Villa."

Also on Guzan's mind is the club's improved form this season. Aston Villa flirted with relegation for most of last season before securing survival by finishing in 15th place with 41 points, five points clear of the drop zone. This season Villa currently sit in 10th place, and Guzan is keen to see how high the team can go.

He said, "It’s a club that I think is definitely on the rise, and it's something I want to be a part of."
