Alan Pardew happy with summer deals

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has revealed he is happy with the club’s summer recruitment drive.

• Duffy: Newcastle deadline day (warning: may contain sarcasm)
• Delaney: Premier League clubs: Transfer grades
• Premier League transfer list

Signing just one senior player this summer, Newcastle represented the least active club in the Premier League during this summer’s transfer market.

However, speaking via a statement on the club’s official website, Pardew described himself as ‘delighted’ at the acquisition of Loïc Rémy on loan from Queens Park Rangers.

“We are delighted to have brought Loic Remy to the club in this window and we believe he will form an exciting and effective partnership with Papiss Cissé,” Pardew said.

Under the guidance of Director of Football Joe Kinnear, who demanded he be judged on the results of his endeavours, fans have already begun to question the current hierarchy - unfurling a defamatory banner during the recent home game against West Ham United.

Commenting on Kinnear’s involvement in the summer negotiations, Pardew said: “Joe has worked hard on numerous targets, particularly an additional offensive player.

“However some of the options that were available within our financial means were not as good as the players we already had and there is no point bringing in new players unless they can improve us and take us forward.

“We did the majority of our business in the January window, signing five excellent first team players. With the strong squad we have we should all approach the season in a positive, optimistic frame of mind.”
