Bates exits Leeds United

Leeds United have confirmed that former Chelsea owner Ken Bates has left the club.

Bates had bought Leeds in 2005 and acted as chairman until June 30 this year, when he began what was due to be a three-year term as president.

However, Bates — who signed the club over to current owners GFH Capital in December 2012 — has now ended his association with the Championship side.

A short statement from managing director David Haigh read: “Ken Bates has ceased to be president of Leeds United Football Club. Mr Bates will now no longer have any role within the football club.”

Bates, 81, had sold Chelsea to Roman Abramovich in 2003.

Information from the Press Association was used in this report.
