Brentford loan Everton forward McAleny

Everton striker Conor McAleny has joined League One side Brentford on loan until January.

The 20-year-old, a graduate of the youth set-up at Goodison Park, is in line to make his Brentford debut when they face Cardiff in a friendly next Tuesday.

He has played twice for Everton’s first team – making Premier League substitute appearances against Arsenal and Norwich in December 2011 – and had a loan spell at Scunthorpe in the spring of 2012.

McAleny struggled with injuries last season, but Everton manager Roberto Martinez is hoping the forward will benefit from the loan move to Griffin Park.

Martinez told Everton’s official website: "Conor has been doing really well in pre-season. He’s a boy that’s got a real talent and a real knack for scoring goals out of nothing and that’s something that in football is rare to have.

"For Conor, the next stage is to play some first team football and we’ve got that opportunity to do it at Brentford, a set-up that is very well run and manager that is going to allow Conor to develop.

"We are very happy to be able to allow Conor to go and play his football and to carry on his development in a very controlled environment and in a positive environment."

McAleny is the latest Everton youngster to join Brentford, who signed midfielder Adam Forshaw in 2012 and defender Jake Bidwell in June this year – both permanent moves that followed successful loan spells.

Brentford manager Uwe Rosler added: "We have a good relationship with Everton and have had good feedback on Conor both as a player and a person."

McAleny’s loan deal will run until Monday, January 6.
