Negredo 'overwhelmed' at City

Alvaro Negredo believes he has joined a team packed with “top” players who will make it easier for him to settle at Manchester City.

Negredo made his first Manchester City appearance on Wednesday.

Pellegrini happy with attack

The Spain forward signed from Sevilla for £20 million and made his City debut as a substitute in the Barclays Asia Trophy win over South China in Hong Kong on Wednesday, and Negredo pronounced himself “overwhelmed” at the quality around him in Manuel Pellegrini’s team.

The 27-year-old told the club’s official website: “It is a team with a lot of top players and they have been very friendly to me and I am very happy to be here. I am overwhelmed.”

Negredo scored 70 goals in four years as a Sevilla player, including 25 in La Liga last season, and he almost opened his City account with a spectacular volley.

He added: “It was really, really close. It was a cross from Aleks Kolarov but the result is not important. It is to [get ready for the] start of the Premier League.”

Negredo is one of four summer signings who have cost City almost £90 million. Winger Jesus Navas also joined from Sevilla, midfielder Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk and forward Stevan Jovetic from Fiorentina.

Fernandinho has played in all three of City’s pre-season games while Navas and Jovetic could make their debuts against Sunderland on Saturday in the final of the Barclays Asia Trophy.
