Gerrard: Aspas and Alberto can deliver

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes new signings Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas will improve the team dramatically.

Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto will be looking to make an impact this season.

- Rodgers aims to 'complete jigsaw'

Midfielder Alberto, 20, joined Liverpool for £6.8 million from Sevilla while forward Aspas, 25, was a £7.7 million buy from Celta Vigo.

And the two Spaniards, who made their Liverpool debuts in last week’s 4-0 friendly win over Preston, have made an impression on Gerrard.

He told the club’s official website: "The two Spanish lads have settled in really well and I think they will certainly make the squad and the team an awful lot stronger. They're both two technicians, very good on the ball and comfortable. You would expect that with them coming from Spain.

"They are two different players — Aspas is a very lively forward who likes to score goals and get shots off. Luis is more of a footballer, a technician who likes to create and pass the ball well.”

However, Gerrard is warning that the two newcomers might not acclimatise to English football straight away and believes it will be easier for goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, who was signed from Sunderland, and defender Kolo Toure, brought in from Manchester City, to make an immediate impact.

He added: "I'm really looking forward to seeing how they do, but I suppose they need a little bit more time than the likes of Kolo Toure and Simon Mignolet because they are new to the league.”
