Birmingham accept Hull bid for Davies

Hull are closing in on the signing of Birmingham defender Curtis Davies after they had a bid accepted for the player.

The newly-promoted Premier League club had made two previous bids for the centre-back, who is reportedly valued at £2.25 million by the Blues.

Cash-strapped Birmingham’s financial problems mean they are open to offers for their prized assets and Davies recently revealed he wants to return to the top flight.

The 28-year-old has previously played in the Premier League for West Brom, Aston Villa - who paid £10 million for him in 2007 - and Birmingham.

He joined the Blues for an undisclosed fee in January 2011 but was unable to prevent their relegation four months later.

Davies was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year for the 2011-12 season and has scored six goals in each of the last two campaigns.

Hull manager Steve Bruce, who has had two spells in charge of Birmingham, also wants to sign a goalkeeper, with Leicester’s Kasper Schmeichel a top target, and a striker, with Burnley’s Charlie Austin of interest.

The Tigers completed the signing of defender Maynor Figueroa earlier this week.
