Chris Martin parachutes into Derby

Norwich City striker Chris Martin will move to Championship side Derby County this summer following a successful loan spell at Pride Park.

Martin, 24, scored two goals in 13 league appearances while on a short-term deal in the East Midlands and Rams boss Nigel Clough has now swooped to sign him permanently.

The 6ft 1in forward has spent his entire career at Norwich having progressed through the club’s youth ranks but has struggled to hold down a regular place since firing the Canaries to the League One title with 23 goals in 2009-10.

He has had loan spells at Luton, Crystal Palace and Swindon in recent seasons but will now settle at Derby, with Clough delighted to confirm his second signing following the capture of Burnley goalkeeper Lee Grant, who will also officially join the club on July 1.

"Chris did really well whilst here on loan so we're pleased to get him signed up, and it's another important signing for us,” Clough said. "He's a striker with different qualities to what we've already got, especially with his physical presence and ability to hold the ball up.

"We've admired him from afar for some time and monitored his progress closely, and once we got him in the building we knew he would fit in just fine with how we want to play and this group of lads.  We can't wait to see him in action come the start August with a full pre-season behind him."

Martin will arrive on a free transfer after Norwich decided not to take up the option of a further 12 months on his contract.
