Karacan ready to snub Galatasaray

Reading midfielder Jem Karacan has pledged his future to relegated Reading and is ready to snub reported interest from Galatasaray.

Karacan, 24, was born in South East London but is of Turkish descent and has played for Turkey throughout their youth levels. Last year he represented the national team's A2 development squad before winning his first full call-up in October for the World Cup qualifier against Hungary.

Speculation has linked Karacan with a move to newly crowned Turkish champions Galatasaray, which would see him tread a similar path to another London-born Turkey international. In 2007, Colin Kazim-Richards left Sheffield United after their relegation from the Premier League for Turkish club Fenerbahce and he eventually went on to play for Galatasaray.

But Karacan is determined to stay and help Reading return to the top-flight at the first attempt.

"It happens every year," he said. "I keep getting bugged about it. I'm a Reading player. I signed a deal last summer and everyone wants to play in the best league in the world and it's gutting to not have that next year.

"Reading is a Premier League club and we know we should be there and we will try our hardest to get back up. Anything can happen in the summer.

"I'm a Reading player and I will be as happy as ever if I'm still here."
