Cole hopes Carroll stays at West Ham

West Ham United midfielder Joe Cole hopes the club can reach a deal with Liverpool to keep Andy Carroll at the club.

Andy Carroll celebrates after levelling for West Ham
Andy Carroll has scored seven Premier League goals for the Hammers this season

After an injury-plagued season at West Ham, Carroll has found his form in the past three months, scoring six goals in 11 appearances. It is believed the two clubs agreed a £17 million transfer as part of the loan agreement but the Hammers do not want to pay such a high price for the former Newcastle striker.

Cole, who himself left Liverpool in January to move back to East London, told talkSPORT: "West Ham definitely want to keep Andy Carroll. I don't know the ins and outs of the deal but the way he's been playing in the last couple of weeks you can understand why Liverpool paid £35 million for him a couple of years ago.

"I think all the boys want him to stay at West Ham. He's (his own) man, though, and he has his own agenda. I don't know what Liverpool are thinking and I'm sure there will be other clubs in for him. West Ham would like to keep him, he's our top scorer. He's got to do what's right for him, though."

Hammers assistant manager Neil McDonald added on the club's official website: "Andy Carroll is enjoying his time in London, is enjoying playing for West Ham and is enjoying being on the training field and trying to contribute for the team. He's scoring goals and making goals for other people."
