Toronto close in on Ephraim loan deal

QPR forward Hogan Ephraim is close to sealing a move to Major League Soccer side Toronto FC on loan.

Former QPR team-mate Ryan Nelsen became Toronto manager last month and is keen to see club president Kevin Payne seal a deal.

Payne said: “We’re in hopefully the final stages of signing him to a loan agreement with Queens Park Rangers. We hope that will be concluded in the next day or two.”

Ephraim signed for QPR in 2008 and has played 95 times for the club, though he has not been part of the first-team picture this season.

The Canadian franchise are also keen on several other British-based players, with Tottenham midfielder John Bostock and Cardiff forward Robert Earnshaw also rumoured to be on their radar.

Payne is looking to sign the players on loan ahead of the 2013 MLS season before considering permanent deals.

“All of these players would initially be on loan because we want to be able to have an opportunity to see them in our league before we make long-term commitments,” he added.

Bostock has struggled to break through into the Tottenham first-team since his high-profile arrival in 2008 while Earnshaw has seen himself out of the squad at promotion-chasing Championship club Cardiff.
