Scharner hints at return to England

Hamburg defender Paul Scharner has revealed he may make a return to the Premier League just six months after arriving in the Bundesliga.

Scharner, 32, signed for the German club on a free transfer last summer after spells with Wigan and West Brom.

However, thanks to injury and suspensions the former Austria international has been limited to just four appearances and has struggled to make an impact at the club.

“A Premier League club is interested in signing me,” Scharner said. “Within the next few days it will become concrete.

“As a pro you want to play. I did not get a lot of chances here. Of course the offer is interesting.”

Michael Mancienne's injury at Nurnberg last week had given Scharner fresh hope of a chance to force his way into the side. Hamburg, however, have made their feelings clear on the player by expressing their interest in signing Chelsea loanee Jeffrey Bruma on a permanent deal at the end of the season.
