Redknapp hints at QPR swoop for Anelka

Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp has suggested he could be tempted to make a play for Nicolas Anelka if the striker becomes available in January.

Anelka turned his back on the Premier League last season after securing a lucrative move to Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua. But there are claims that the former Manchester City and Real Madrid striker has grown unhappy with life in Asia and is considering a return to Europe.

He has recently been linked with West Ham, but Redknapp may well put in a bid if Anelka does elect to come back to English football.

"He is a good player, a quality player," Redknapp said. "If he's available he will be of interest to people.

"As far as I know he's gone to China - I don't know what the situation is with that."

Redknapp's Rangers are rooted to the foot of the Premier League and have just 11 goals to their name, but the R's are also looking to boost their defensive options and Tal Ben Haim is currently training with the club.

"I'm having a look at him," Redknapp said. "He's a good defender, got a great attitude and he looks very fit so I've let him come in and train and we'll see how we go the next couple of weeks with him."
