Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho given No. 14 shirt, set for debut vs. Espanyol

Philippe Coutinho has been given the No. 14 shirt for Barcelona and is in line to make his debut after being included in Ernesto Valverde's squad for Thursday's Copa del Rey game against Espanyol at Camp Nou.

Coutinho, 25, joined Barca for a club record €160 million earlier this month from Liverpool but has been sidelined with a thigh injury since making the move.

However, he returned to training last Saturday and was passed fit by the club's medical staff to make a return to competitive action on Wednesday.

Ahead of the confirmation that the Brazilian would be available for the Catalan derby against Espanyol, who he played for on loan in 2012, Barca confirmed that he would inherit Javier Mascherano's No.14 squad number.

Mascherano will not take part against Espanyol, but will appear on the Camp Nou pitch before kickoff to say goodbye to the supporters before leaving for Hebei Fortune on Friday.

Yerry Mina is also in line to make his first appearance for the club after joining from Palmeiras for €11.8m this month.

However, the Colombian is almost certain to start from the bench, with fit again Samuel Umtiti paired with Gerard Pique in defence.

In more good news for Valverde, Andres Iniesta and Paco Alcacer both return from injuries, too.

However, Thomas Vermaelen and Ousmane Dembele remain sidelined with hamstring problems.

Barca go into the second leg of the quarterfinal tie 1-0 down.

Oscar Melendo scored the only goal of last week's first leg at Cornella-Prat in the 87th minute after Lionel Messi had missed a penalty.
