Barcelona have no update on Luis Enrique successor - sporting director

Barcelona are still no closer to deciding on a replacement for outgoing coach Luis Enrique, according to sporting director Robert Fernandez.

Luis Enrique confirmed in February that he will be walking away from his role at the Camp Nou when his contract expires at the end of the season.

However, Barca maintain there have been no developments in their search for a new coach and that their primary focus is on finishing the campaign as well as they can, with the La Liga title and Copa del Rey still up for grabs.

"I'm working on it," Fernandez told RAC1 when asked how the search for a coach was going. "But the most important thing right now is to finish the season well. I want Luis Enrique to go out as a league and cup champion.

"So we don't want to divert the attention away from that. We don't know who it will be yet and we're not in a rush [to make an appointment]. When we have to make a decision, we will make one."

Athletic Bilbao's Ernesto Valverde and Luis Enrique's assistant Juan Carlos Unzue are reportedly the front runners, but Fernandez did not want to give any clues away.

"I won't rule anyone out," he said when asked if it would come down to picking between Valverde and Unzue. "We're working on it and we will communicate our decision when the moment comes. I will come up with a list of names and the president and the board will take it from there."

Despite not yet knowing who will be Luis Enrique's successor, Fernandez said he has already began to work on evolving the squad over the summer.

He said a right-back is likely to be a priority, but was keen to stress "there will not be as much movement as last year" when Barca made six signings.

Questioned directly on links to Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin, Real Madrid's Isco and Paulo Dybala of Juventus, Fernandez limited himself to saying: "They're all great players, but all of them have contracts with their respective clubs."

But he did open the door to a potential exit for Arda Turan, who has been linked with a move to China during each of the last two transfer windows.

"We're not aware of any move offers from China, but if one arrives we will study it," he said.

However, Neymar and Javier Mascherano were both branded "non-transferrable" by Fernandez.
