Javier Mascherano a fitness doubt for Real Sociedad with calf injury
Barcelona have been dealt more bad news with the confirmation that Javier Mascherano picked up a calf problem against Juventus.
The Argentina international played the whole game in Turin as a brace from Paulo Dybala and a Giorgio Chiellini header left Barca's Champions League hopes hanging by a thread just hours after Neymar had been handed a three-match ban in La Liga.
Luis Enrique's squad returned to training on Thursday, but Mascherano did not take part and the club have since revealed he's a doubt for Saturday's game against Real Sociedad.
"The first team player Javier Mascherano has a problem with his left calf and his recovery will determine when he will be available once again," a brief statement from the club read.
Mascherano began the game against Juve in midfield, but switched back into defence at half-time after the introduction of Andre Gomes.
While Barca improved in the second half, they failed to score an away goal and have it all to do in next week's second leg at Camp Nou.
However, their 6-5 aggregate win over Paris Saint-Germain in the last round will ensure they don't give up on turning things around.
Meanwhile, in the league they trail Real Madrid by three points after losing to Malaga last weekend and can ill afford another slip up against Real Sociedad.
Turkish midfielder Arda Turan returned to training on Wednesday after injuring his groin while on international duty in March.
