Odds for Barcelona comeback longer than New England Patriots

The in-game odds for Barcelona's improbable five-goal defeat of Paris Saint-Germain in Wednesday's round-of-16 second-leg tie rose as high as 100-1, a figure that made the Catalan club six-times more unlikely to achieve the desired result than the New England Patriots were in their historic Super Bowl comeback last month.

After PSG striker Edinson Cavani scored in the 63rd minute to put the Parisian side on the board at 3-1, and Barcelona behind 5-3 on aggregate due to the 4-0 loss in the first leg, William Hill posted in-game odds of Barcelona prevailing at 50-1.

As the minutes passed without a goal, the odds got as high as 100-1. That was until the 88th minute, when Barcelona forward Neymar scored on a free kick.

Barca then proceeded to score two more goals in the final seven minutes to win 6-1 and advance to the quarterfinals 6-5 on aggregate.

When the Patriots were down 28-3 during their unlikely turnaround, William Hill offered in-game betting odds of 16-1 for the New England to come back and win the game.

Few made the bet, as was the case with Wednesday's game. William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly said that 50-1 was the highest odds a bettor took, and that bet was for £40 pounds ($48).
