Barcelona's Rafinha to miss Copa del Rey quarterfinal with hamstring injury

Barcelona midfielder Rafinha Alcantara will miss this week's Copa del Rey quarterfinal first leg against Real Sociedad with a hamstring problem, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The Brazil international is also a doubt for Sunday's trip to Eibar in La Liga and next week's return leg against La Real at Camp Nou.

"First-team player Rafinha has pulled a hamstring muscle and will have to sit out Thursday's Copa del Rey first leg away to Real Sociedad," a statement from the club read.

"The injury is to the attacking midfielder's biceps femoris muscle in his right leg. Club doctors will need to monitor the Brazilian's progress before determining his availability for other matches."

Rafinha has been in and out of the side this season but has started the last two games and created two of the goals in Saturday's 5-0 win against Las Palmas.

In total he has made 18 appearances this season and has contributed with six goals, including the winner against Granada in the league at the end of October.

Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta are almost certain to start in midfield against La Real and Luis Enrique is not short of options when it comes to choosing who plays alongside them, despite Rafinha's knock.

Ivan Rakitic and Andre Gomes have been picked as Barca's third midfielder most often this season, but Denis Suarez could also come into his manager's thinking.

Following Jasper Cillessen and Jeremy Mathieu's returns to competitive action in the last week, the Blaugrana currently have no other injury concerns.
