Barcelona fail in second appeal against Lionel Messi yellow card vs. Sevilla

Barcelona have failed in a second appeal against Lionel Messi's booking in the 2-1 win against Sevilla.

Referee Santiago Jaime Latre cautioned Messi for time-wasting as he tried to put his boot back on after being fouled by Steven N'Zonzi.

Barca felt that the decision was incorrect as N'Zonzi's challenge had damaged Messi's boot.

But the Royal Spanish Football Federation's (RFEF) Competition Committee upheld the booking last week, with its decision prompting Barca to take the matter to the Appeals Committee.

However, after deliberating over the footage and the referee's report, the Appeals Committee also decided to uphold the yellow card -- Messi's third of the season in La Liga -- meaning he is two bookings away from a suspension.

Barcelona now have 15 days to decide whether they want to take the matter to Spain's Administrative Tribunal of Sport and have not yet commented on whether they will do so.

This is not the first time the Catalan club have unsuccessfully appealed against a booking for Messi for time-wasting, with a yellow card for the offence in a 2014 win at Valencia also upheld.

Meanwhile, Luis Suarez and Neymar picked up their fifth and fourth bookings of the season respectively in the Sevilla game.

Uruguay striker Suarez is suspended for Malaga's visit to the Camp Nou on Saturday, while Neymar is one caution away from a ban.
