Luis Enrique backs Pep Guardiola amid Manchester City's winless run

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique is convinced Pep Guardiola will win titles with Manchester City this season despite the criticism which has followed a six-game winless run.

Wednesday night's EFL Cup elimination against local rivals Manchester United prolonged City's poor run of form -- which includes a 4-0 loss to the Blaugrana at Camp Nou -- with their last victory coming against Swansea on Sept. 24.

It's the longest streak without a win for Guardiola in his managerial career, but Luis Enrique, who played alongside the Catalan coach, has urged him to ignore those suggesting he will have to change his style to be a success in England.

"To Guardiola, I would say don't worry about it," the Barca boss said in a news conference on Friday. "He will win titles this year with the football he was playing at the beginning of the season and with the football he's always played [as a manager].

"There's always criticism, there has to be. These critics will always appear because people are bothered by the same people winning all the time.

"City will [win titles this season] playing good football and putting on a show."

Luis Enrique's answer was in response to a long-winded question about the effects of foreign ownership in football.

Granada, Barca's opponents on Saturday, were taken over in the summer and acted quickly to sack manager Paco Jemez after a poor start to the campaign.

Using Granada and City as examples, the Blaugrana coach was asked if he felt trigger-happy foreign owners were a bad thing for modern day clubs.

"I'm not worried about where presidents of clubs come from," Luis Enrique said. "I'm worried about their experience, if they know what's going on, if they accept advice and if they know that it's not just a numbers game.

This idea of going left, right, getting this [manager], that [manager], that worries me -- but there have been local presidents that have done bad jobs.

"I think people managing clubs need to have some sort of understanding [of the game]."
