Luis Suarez wants to retire at Barcelona after winning Golden Shoe

Luis Suarez says he'd love to retire at Barcelona after being presented with the European Golden Shoe award for the second time in his career.

The Uruguay international striker was a joint winner with Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo two years ago, but he claimed the prize outright this time after scoring 40 league goals last season as Barca won La Liga.

Since joining from Liverpool in 2014, he has scored 93 goals in 108 appearances for the Blaugrana and has won two La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys, a Champions League, a World Club Cup, a European Super Cup and a Spanish Super Cup.

However, that hasn't quelled his thirst for more titles and he hopes to win many more at Camp Nou before eventually, if possible, hanging his boots up at the club.

"I'm in the best team in the world with the best players," he told a news conference after being handed the award for Europe's top scorer.

"The group objectives always come first -- La Liga, Champions League, Copa del Rey -- and then come the personal titles, but it doesn't matter if it's me, [Lionel] Messi, Neymar or whoever [winning them].

"I suffered a lot to make it here [Barca] and I want to enjoy it and continue fighting to complete my objectives, which is to win titles.

"I would love to retire here, but that obliges you to stay at the top level for your whole career.

"But I'm not thinking about that now. There are only a few privileged enough to retire here."

Suarez was delivered the Golden Shoe by his two children, Benjamin and Delfina, and he joked that, despite being disappointed their dad didn't score in the Champions League win against Manchester City on Wednesday, they were happy to see another Messi hat trick.

"My kids, mainly Benja, asked me why I didn't score any goals [against City]," the 29-year-old said, "but the fact our neighbour [Messi], who he knows, scored three goals made him happy anyway."

Of the 40 goals which led to the award, the efforts which stood out for Suarez were the "two against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu and the one against Atletico [Madrid] at home which allowed us to stay at the top."

He's now just one Golden Shoe behind Messi, who has won three, while Ronaldo has claimed the prize on four occasions.
