Luis Enrique assumes blame for Barcelona's defeat at Celta Vigo

Luis Enrique says he's to blame after Barcelona leaked four goals away to Celta Vigo for a second season in succession as they were beaten 4-3 at Balaidos on Sunday.

The Barca coach rotated his side on the day, leaving Andres Iniesta and Ivan Rakitic on the bench, and saw Celta score three goals in 11 first-half minutes to go into the break in a commanding position.

Iniesta came on in the second half to make his 600th appearance for the club and led a spirited fightback, although the Blaugrana's attempts to rescue a point ultimately came up short.

"I'm the first person responsible for this defeat," Luis Enrique offered after Barca's second loss in La Liga this season.

"We all lose and we all win [together], but when we lose I'm culpable first; the first who has to improve. I'm responsible for the rotations and I'm the one who has to take the responsibility."

Gerard Pique scored two headers and Neymar rolled home from the penalty spot in the second 45 minutes, but it was a dire first-half spell which cost Barca.

It didn't go unnoticed by Luis Enrique, who drew up a large list of things which weren't done well in the opening period.

"We entered a negative dynamic and began to lose individual duels in which [Celta] got the better of us," he added.

Luis Enrique vs Celta
Luis Enrique cited a number of issues that hurt his side on Sunday.

"We didn't attack into space, we weren't well-positioned, we didn't have control of the game and we didn't play with any fluidity.

"We anticipated things better and were more accurate with the ball in the second half, but it's clear that the fourth goal killed us. Given how the game was going, though, it didn't surprise me."

The fourth goal was the result of a mistake by goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The German's attempt to play out from the back was read by Pablo Hernandez, who charged the ball down and deflected it into the back of the net.

However, Luis Enrique refused to criticise Ter Stegen for giving a goal away at a point when Barca had got back into the game at 3-2.

"A Barcelona goalkeeper has to take risks," he said. "I'm not going to talk about individual errors.

"The goalkeeper is key for us. He serves to create superiority in terms of keeping the ball and bringing it out.

"It's easy to criticise and say that maybe he could have taken on less of a risk, but everything's easier in retrospect."
