Barcelona legend criticises Luis Enrique over Paco Alcacer positioning

Former Barcelona star Luis Suarez has criticised Luis Enrique's decision to play Paco Alcacer out wide during Wednesday's 2-1 Champions League win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Alcacer, a €30 million summer signing from Valencia, was selected to fill the gap left by the injured Lionel Messi in Germany, starting alongside Neymar and Barca's present-day Luis Suarez in the front three.

However, he was hardly involved in the game -- as was the case in his debut against Alaves in La Liga -- and was substituted after 53 minutes with Monchengladbach ahead.

Suarez, who played for Barca between 1955 and 1961, feels Alcacer would benefit from trying to relax when he pulls on the Blaugrana jersey.

"He's a box player," Spain's only Ballon d'Or winner told Cadena SER programme "La Graderia."

"If you put him out to one side, he gets lost. I saw he was a bit anxious. He wants to do so many things that in the end he ends up doing none of them. He has to be more relaxed."

Alcacer, now without a goal in four appearances for his new club, was replaced by Rafinha as Barcelona managed to turn the game on its head.

And Suarez said Luis Enrique had rectified the situation with his use of substitutions.

"It was a strange game," he added. "They played worse in the first half, but that was when they had more clear chances.

"Luis Enrique made a mistake at the start [with the positioning of Alcacer], but his changes helped."
