Barcelona open first academy in Moscow

Barcelona have continued their worldwide expansion with the inauguration of a new FCBEscola in Moscow, the club's first in Russia and the 21st in their range of football schools.

Barca said the aim of the FCBEscola was to extend the club's model and working philosophy internationally.

"The new school in Moscow has the capacity for 200 children, between the ages of four and 12 years, who are divided into different programmes based on age and technical level," the club said in a statement.

"Training will start this week, and in the next few days more trials are scheduled to be held in order to reach more youngsters who want to play the game."

Following the successful launch of a New York office this month, the Spanish champions opened a training academy in Charlotte, North Carolina, as they attempt to increase their presence in the American market.

The academy is the second of its kind in the United States, with one in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, having been in operation since 2014.

Barcelona have had an office in Hong Kong for over two years, while plans are in place to branch out into Brazil.

And with the Moscow FCBEscola up and running, the next step will be to press ahead with similar ventures in Canada, India and Nigeria.

In addition to the football schools, Barcelona operate more than 150 training campuses in over 50 countries across all five continents.

More than 30,000 children are currently involved in the club's various programmes.
