Barcelona's Luis Suarez clinches Pichichi crown with 40 goals in La Liga

Luis Suarez locked up the the Pichichi crown as the top goal scorer in La Liga with a hat trick in Barcelona's title-clinching 3-0 win at Granada on Saturday.

The Uruguayan's three goals took him to 40 goals in the league this campaign -- five more than Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored twice on the season's final day.

"It's a unique moment to enjoy," Suarez said. "I'm happy with everything. For the title, the goals, the happiness we've given to the fans."

Suarez is the first player other than Ronaldo or Lionel Messi to win the Pichichi since Diego Forlan in 2009.

Messi finished with 26 goals, third in the league.

Suarez, who used a tremendous late push with 14 goals in his last five games to surpass Ronaldo, credited his teammates for his success.

"Thanks to everyone because without them I couldn't have done it," Suarez said. "Without them, I wouldn't be in this situation.

"I only had to nudge the ball. They looked for me and I'm grateful for it, thanks to everyone once again."

The 29-year-old has 59 goals in all competitions this season, and he can still add to that in the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla on May 22. His previous high was 49 with Ajax in 2009-10.

"Now we have to think about the cup, but today it's time to enjoy La Liga," Suarez said. "It's a competition we've worked for very hard over the year and in the end, we've got our reward."

Though there are some league games remaining on Sunday, his nearest competitor still to play would have to score 22 goals to match him, all but ensuring the Uruguayan's title.
