Sergi Roberto credits Barcelona manager Luis Enrique for Spain call

Barcelona super-sub Sergi Roberto has named Luis Enrique as the sole reason for his recent call up to the Spanish national team, and credited the manager for instilling the 24-year-old with newfound confidence this season.

A midfielder by trade, Sergi has played nearly every position for the Blaugrana as the 2015 Treble-winners try to repeat the feat this campaign, including starting at right-back for the Catalans' 2-2 draw at Villarreal on Sunday.

The La Masia product has participated in 40 matches already this season, after appearing in just 18 in 2014-15.

He hailed Luis Enrique for the increased belief and workload at the Camp Nou, as well as Friday's Spain call.

"It's entirely because of Luis Enrique that I'm here," Sergi told media gathered on Monday.

"He gives me belief, gave me a lot of game time and if you play with your team and do well, you get the recognition from the national team.

"Last year I didn't have much of a main role, but this year I do, I'm playing a lot of minutes and helping the team, which is what I want.

"I'm very happy with the season we're having, it's given me the opportunity to be here and I'm very happy."
