Sergio Busquets confident Barcelona contract situation will be resolved

Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has said he wants to stay at the club and hopes president Josep Maria Bartomeu keeps his promise of a new contract.

Vice-captain Busquets is under contract until 2019 and has reportedly been told he will be given a new deal by the board.

But the club are close to hitting their salary cap, with superstars Neymar and Lionel Messi also hoping to get pay rises in the coming months.

Busquets recently spoke about a potential reunion with ex-Camp Nou coach Pep Guardiola one day, while Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move for the Spain international.

But speaking after Tuesday's Champions League win at Arsenal, he said he was confident his contract situation would soon be resolved.

"That is something for the president -- I hope he keeps his word, but I trust that it will all be sorted," he said.

"I know where I want to be. I feel very valued by the Barca fans and by the club. We are in a good moment."

Busquets had an excellent game at the Emirates Stadium, dominating opponent Mesut Ozil and completing 78 of his 83 attempted passes despite picking up an early injury.

"I banged my knee, my body spun around, but the pain passed and luckily I was able to play on," he said. "It has happened to me before, but this time I was not injured."

The match had been scoreless until the final quarter when Messi scored twice, and Arsenal took more risks as the game progressed -- something that suited Barcelona, Busquets said.

"We got a very good result against a good team who made things difficult for us," he added.

"In the first half they were the better team, tactically, defensively and physically. But in the second half, they wanted to take more risks, and we were happy with that. We could take advantage of the spaces."
