Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez best trident in Barcelona history - Villa

David Villa has crowned the Barcelona attacking trident of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez as "undoubtedly" the best in the club's history.

Villa, Spain's all-time leading goalscorer, won the 2011 Champions League with the Blaugrana alongside Messi and Pedro up front. That team's triumph came just two seasons after the trio of Messi, Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto'o fired the Catalans to the club's third UCL crown.

While three years before that still, Messi, Ronaldinho and Eto'o often provided the offence as Barcelona stormed to Champions League glory against Arsenal in Paris.

Speaking to Sport on Wednesday, Villa, 34, says he's convinced the current front line, who on Sunday led the way in Barca's 3-1 Club World Cup final triumph of River Plate, is better than all the rest.

"Without a doubt, it's the best trident in Barca's history," said Villa, who currently plays for New York City FC in MLS. "It's undoubtedly the best.

"The numbers speak for themselves. You only have to analyse them: they're brutal, individually and collectively.

"I can say I was part of one of the best forward lines that the club has had."

Villa, who also featured for Valencia and Atletico Madrid over his career, hailed the work of manager Luis Enrique, who led the team to a treble of trophies -- La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League -- last season.

Said Villa: "When he arrived, the team started with ups and downs, with criticism coming from everywhere and in the end Barca won everything again."
