Barcelona's Sergi Roberto faces spell on sidelines after ankle injury

Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto faces another injury layoff after spraining an ankle in Tuesday's 6-1 Champions League win over Roma.

Roberto, 23, went off midway through the game at the Camp Nou after a clash with midfielder William Vainqueur.

Tests carried out on Wednesday morning revealed that he had suffered an ankle problem.

"Barca midfielder Sergi Roberto sprained his right ankle in a clash with AS Roma's William Vainqueur during Tuesday evening's Champions League game and his presence in the next few games will depend on how the injury progresses," a Barca statement said.

"He was in the starting XI for the 6-1 win at the Camp Nou, but had to be substituted by Adriano after 64 minutes."

Roberto has performed well in recent months, featuring in his favoured "interior" attacking midfield role, as well as covering when required for Dani Alves at right-back and playing on the wing in the 4-0 Clasico win at Real Madrid.

Last month, he was sidelined earlier in the season after picking up a muscle problem in the Champions League game at BATE Borisov on Oct. 20.
