Barcelona announce new five-year Rafinha contract

Rafinha Alcantara has reached an agreement to extend his Barcelona contract until 2020.

Brazil international Rafinha's current deal is due to expire in June next year but he has now agreed to prolong his stay for another five years.

Rafinha's father, Mazinho, had expressed concern in January that Barca had yet to begin talks on an extension but he confirmed in September that negotiations were underway.

The club decided to offer Rafinha new terms despite the player tearing his knee ligaments during a Champions League game against Roma earlier this season.

A statement on Barca's website on Monday confirmed that the midfielder, 22, will put pen to paper on the new contract in the coming days and that his buyout clause will be set at €75 million.

Rafinha, the younger brother of Bayern Munich and Spain star Thiago Alcantara, came through the youth ranks at Barca and made his debut for the club in 2011.
