Pedro 'very dear' to Barcelona fans - coach Luis Enrique

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique insists that Pedro is still an important part of his plans, despite reports that he wants to leave to move to the Premier League to join Manchester United or City.

Pedro, 28, revealed that he has not asked to leave Barcelona this summer, despite the club secretary claiming the contrary, but has admitted that he wants to play more minutes.

With Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez ahead of him in the pecking order, the winger is unlikely to get his wish -- having been left on the bench in the 5-4 win over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup -- and manager Luis Enrique insisted that he would continue to make his decisions based on what he feels is best for the team.

Asked whether Pedro would be in the squad for the Spanish Super Cup against Athletic Bilbao on Friday, Luis Enrique told a news conference: "Nobody knows. I do not make decisions based on the transfer market. He did not play as a starter in Tbilisi because he withdrew from training a few days before, his position is an unusual and difficult one.

"His situation is a contradiction because he wants to stay but he always wants more minutes. I'll continue to use the players I deem best to face each particular game. I'm looking forward to the end of the transfer window for everything to be decided.

"I have gone over and over the subject of Pedro. I am not going to feed the issue. The fans understand Pedro's situation. He has been and will always be very dear to the fans because he is such a professional."

Barcelona could claim six trophies this calendar year if they are successful in the Super Cup, before they go to the Club World Cup in December, but Luis Enrique said that his next target was the next game.

"It's a goal we have in mind and one that motivates us but we are focused on is winning the fifth title first, the sixth is far away," he said.

"We're starting with these big targets and the Super Cup will help us be competitive right from the start. We want to be better than Athletic and then we'll see how things go in La Liga and the Champions League."
