Pedro has received no official offers, says Barcelona president Bartomeu

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has insisted his club have not received a formal offer for Pedro this summer, despite persistent reports linking the Spanish forward with a move to Manchester United.

Although Pedro signed a new contract with Barcelona last month, his new deal is believed to include a reduced buy-out clause that has set at £22 million, with United widely reported to be preparing to sign the player who started just 15 La Liga games last season.

Pedro faces a fight with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez for a starting spot in Barcelona's star-studded attacking line, yet Bartomeu has tried to play down suggestions that a summer move for the 27-year-old Spain international is inevitable.

When asked by reporters in San Francisco if Barcelona had received an approach from any clubs looking to sign Pedro, the club president revealed that nothing formal has been received.

"Nobody has addressed the club officially," Bartomeu stated. "We need all of the players because we are aiming to win every title this season. They're going to be required.

"I refer back to what head coach Luis Enrique said: If someone wants to sign our players then the release clause must be met. So far, no one has made an offer, so we are calm."

Bartomeu had earlier told Marca that he did not expect Pedro to leave and that he was content with the make-up of the squad.

"We've made it clear," said the Barcelona chief. "The team is complete, the idea was to have the squad that we have now and we're not expecting any departures.

"If someone wants to leave, they will have to tell us, because we have no information about anyone wanting to do so. We haven't had any offers. If someone leaves, it will be because the player asks to. We don't want anyone to go."

Barca coach Enrique confirmed earlier this week that he had spoken to Pedro about his future, while also conceding his club were powerless to stop his departure if an offer was made to trigger the release clause in his contract.
