Luis Enrique will stay at Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu says

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu says he remains confident that Luis Enrique will still be in charge next season.

Bartomeu has said on several occasions over recent weeks that the coach will stay on, but Luis Enrique said after Saturday's Champions League final success that no decision has been made.

The Barca president, though, has told RAC1 that he still expects the former Roma and Celta Vigo boss to stay after a debut season in which he also won La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

"Luis Enrique has done a magnificent job," Bartomeu said. "He has done very well. He has a year [remaining on his] contract. I see nothing to stop him continuing because this team has started another winning cycle."

He added: "Luis Enrique has a contract and will continue. I am seeing him very happy -- both him and his coaching staff. We are happy with him and he is happy with the work well done."

Barcelona will hold presidential elections this summer, and Bartomeu said: "I haven't proposed extending his contract, but I would love to. That is something that the future president will decide.

"If it were up to me, I would propose renewal. I don't know whether it would be the first thing I would do, but I know it would be one of the things I would do."

Bartomeu also highlighted the deal to sign Aleix Vidal from Sevilla as evidence that Luis Enrique is likely to continue, describing the right-back as "a player who was an express request of the coaching staff."

Vidal will not be able to join Barca until their FIFA-imposed transfer ban ends in January, and current right-back Dani Alves will move on at the end of this month unless a contract renewal can be agreed.

Bartomeu, though, said the club would not improve on its existing offer.

"He has our offer and we believe it's a good one for him to continue in the best club in the world," Bartomeu said. "It's up to Alves to decide.

"He has had our offer for several weeks now and he has to make the move. It's our final offer, there will be no other."

Barca have also confirmed their interest in signing Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, but Bartomeu was coy on the prospects of a deal.

"Pogba has a contract and is an emblematic player of Juventus," he said. "We haven't tried to sign Pogba, although we are monitoring him."
