Barcelona have no doubt Luis Enrique will stay as coach, says club president

Barcelona are confident head coach Luis Enrique will stay at the club and not leave at the end of the season.

The former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Spain player, who replaced Gerardo Martino at the helm of the Catalan giants last summer, is contracted until 2016 but has remained tight-lipped regarding his future at the club.

Luis Enrique's side are on course for a trophy treble this season, leading the Liga standings and two points clear of Real Madrid with six games remaining.

The Blaugrana are through to the Copa del Rey final and beat Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday to reach the semifinals of the Champions League.

When asked about the coach's role at Barcelona, club president Josep Maria Bartomeu told Spanish TV station Teledeporte: "We would like him to continue.

"We have no doubt that he will remain at the club, moreso because he is under contract."

Luis Enrique appeared to be on shaky ground in January over a reported row with Lionel Messi.

The 44-year-old coach and star forward Messi insisted at the time there were no problems, and not long afterwards Barcelona found their stride.

The 2-0 victory over PSG at the Camp Nou was Luis Enrique's 42nd win in 50 games in charge this term, with Barca through to the Champions League semifinals for the seventh time in the past eight seasons.

The former Spain international is the only Barcelona coach to claim that many victories in his first 50 games.

"We are very happy with Luis Enrique," Bartomeu added. "We are continuously improving."

Barcelona return to Spanish league action on Saturday when they take on city rivals Espanyol at the Cornella-El Prat stadium.
