Barca charged for 'illicit banner' vs. Man City; Dynamo Kiev face sanctions

UEFA has charged Barcelona over fans showing an "illicit banner" at Camp Nou during a Champions League win against Manchester City.

UEFA announced the incident Friday but did not give details. Barcelona won 1-0 on Wednesday to advance from the round of 16 on a 3-1 aggregate score.

UEFA says its disciplinary panel will judge the case on May 21.

The two-month wait for a hearing suggests the incident is not serious.

UEFA typically fast tracks cases so it can apply sanctions at a team's next home match.

Barcelona host Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the quarterfinals on April 21.

Meanhwile, Europa League quarterfinalist Dynamo Kiev also face UEFA sanctions for fans' racist behavior at its match against Everton.

UEFA says its disciplinary panel will judge the racist incident and other charges against the Ukrainian club next Thursday.

Sanctions will likely apply when Dynamo host Fiorentina in the first leg of the quarterfinals on April 16.

The racism was reported at Dynamo's 5-2 win over Everton at the Olympic Stadium on Thursday. Dynamo advanced 6-4 on aggregate.

The match was played with a stadium section closed because of fan disorder in the previous round against Guingamp.

UEFA applies increasingly tough penalties for repeated offenses.
