Sergio Busquets poised to sign new Barcelona contract until 2019 - reports

Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets is set to renew his contract until 2019, according to reports in Spain.

Marca reported that talks between the Spain international's agent Jose Maria Orobitg and Barcelona director of football Raul Sanllehi were about to result in "a positive outcome."

The report said the new deal would run until 2019 and include the option to extend for a further year.

It claimed 26-year-old Busquets would be behind only Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta on the Barcelona payscale as a result, with only minor details remaining to be resolved.

Marca said an official announcement was likely to follow "in the next few days" and added: "Talks have intensified over the past few hours, and the agreement is virtually set in stone.

"This is good news for [Barcelona coach] Luis Enrique, in light of the fact that Barcelona currently have their hands tied due to the FIFA sanction [transfer ban]."

Busquets' existing contract expires in summer 2018, and AS reported that its successor had already been signed, saying the deal was done on Tuesday morning.
